fischer’s facade and fastening systems secure office buildings of the A. Pfeiffer Zimmerei GmbH

Wood hybrid construction with expertise
From a small family-owned craftsmanship business to a technically fully equipped carpentry with expertise in timber and facade construction, An established itself. Pfeiffer in around 130 years. In order to continue to grow, the owners and employees of the 5th-generation family-run company built a new office building in a wood-concrete hybrid design from 2019 November to 2020 December. The building measures 20 by 20 metres and extends over five floors at a height of 17 metres above the site. On the ground floor are the offices of Carpentry A. Pfeiffer and an event room. Sometimes the family business is expanding its separate facade division for the VHF area. There are rented office units on the four floors above. In addition, there is a basement where heating and technology as well as storage rooms are housed.

Architect
Kerstin Geiger-Pfeiffer (wife of the managing director, co-owner and freelance architect)
“Own skills were involved in the implementation,” says Albrecht Pfeiffer, Managing Director of A. Pfeiffer Zimmerei GmbH and Zimmermeister. "My wife and co-owner, as well as freelance architect Kerstin Geiger-Pfeiffer, created the design. Our employees produced the wooden frame wall elements in their own production facilities. They then erected the wooden structure, consisting of the prefabricated wooden frame and solid wood elements, on site." In addition to load-bearing exterior and interior walls, the supporting structure consists of wood-concrete hybrid ceilings on the upper floors above the ground floor. Fischer screws connect the load-bearing laminated timber ceilings with concrete. The stairwell and basement are made of reinforced concrete. At the top is a laminated timber ceiling with sloping ceiling insulation, bitumen sealing, gravel pavement and a photovoltaic system.
“To secure the ceramic facade with wooden licencing, we opted for substructure solutions from the fischer Group,” says Markus Messirek, Technical Manager for Facade Technology at A. Pfeiffer Zimmerei GmbH “In addition to the suitable facade systems, which combine safety and functionality with a representative view of the building, the long-standing trust-based cooperation with BWM spoke in favour of this decision.” Uwe Nachstedt, Managing Director of BWM Fassadensysteme GmbH, emphasises: “We are delighted that we were able to accompany our specialist partner’s construction project from planning and dimensioning to successful completion.”
The basic structure for facade fastening was the tried-and-tested ATK 100 Minor wall brackets. The ATK 103 was attached to this spacer substructure to fix ceramic panels from the fine stoneware specialist Mirage invisibly using staples and undercut anchors. The wall brackets of the ATK 100 were statically dimensioned with fisher SXR 10 x 60 FUS long-shaft anchors and securely fastened permanently. They are made of high-quality nylon with pre-assembled fish hexagon screw and moulded washer. Due to the low anchoring depth of only 50 millimetres, the SXR was very economical to use for multiple fastening of the VHF substructure.
To secure the ceramic facade with wooden licencing, we opted for substructure solutions from the fischer group of companies. In addition to the matching facade systems, which combine safety and functionality with a representative view of the building, the long-standing trust-based cooperation with BWM spoke in favour of this decision.
