Technology meets art

Nature and sculpture interact in an interesting way – this is what the SCULPTOURA describes. With the sculpture trail, the Böblingen district raises awareness of its forest and meadow-rich cultural landscape from Schönbuch to Heckengäu, offers artists an extraordinary platform and invites visitors around the clock to explore the exhibition by bike or on foot.

Ten exhibits, some of which consisted of several parts, were fastened to concrete slabs with the fisher steel anchors FAZ II, FBN II and TA M/SL M. This includes the woodwork by Ingrid Hartlieb, Theresia K. Moosherr and Lars Zech. In addition, there are the steel plastics by José Aguirre, Erich Hauser, Ernst Günter Herrmann, Werner Pokorny, Wolfgang Thiel and Manuela Tirler, as well as massive cast-iron eggs by Renate Hoffleit.

Whether it was the crystal structure of Hauser striving into the sky, the reduced geometric shapes of Aguirre or the colossal “steel portraits” of Goethe and Schiller made by Thiel – the anchoring solution made it possible to reliably and safely guide their loads into the concrete slabs. In order to achieve the highest load-bearing capacity, the artworks were fastened to the concrete slabs using angle steel with Fischer steel anchors. "We were impressed by the cost-effectiveness and ease of installation of the fischer systems. After creating and cleaning the drill hole, it is sufficient to simply set it with a few hammer blows and tighten the nut. The anchors are already firmly spread against the drill hole wall," says Udo Stetzler, the responsible metal builder at Metallbau Stetzler GmbH. “Advantages also lie in the safety of the approved systems, especially in corrosive outdoor environments.”

The fastening solution is virtually the hero behind the scenes of the open-air exhibition, which attracts art and nature enthusiasts and hikers beyond the borders of the circle. "With SCULPTOURA, we are proving that the Böblingen district is more than just an important economic and industrial location. It also has a strong art and cultural scene as well as rural and untouched sides," emphasises Roland Bernhard, County Council of the Böblingen district.

Because it was well received, the exhibition, which was once set up for the period from summer 2014 to autumn 2015, can now be viewed for an indefinite period. The route increased from 30 to 40 kilometres with connection to local public transport in Weil der Stadt. Some works change regularly so that new artists have the opportunity to present their works. Accompanying events and campaigns as well as the ever-changing encounter between nature and sculpture through changing times of day and year also make the exhibition a permanent experience.
