Firm hold for 100-year-old chandelier

fischer’s fastening technology brings a 20-year-old shine to the former Grandhotel Waldlust

Firm hold for 100-year-old chandelier
They could tell many stories, they could talk – the rooms of the former Grand Hotel Waldlust in Freudenstadt. Celebrities from politics, culture and business, the High Nobility and the Grand Citizenship hosted here. King Gustav of Sweden, Dutch Queen Emma, entrepreneur John D. Rockefeller, author Gerhard Hauptmann and Hollywood stars Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford are among the personalities who travel the woods. The Art Deco-style ballroom and dining room with its high ceilings, stucco decorations and large windows was particularly busy. The chandelier, covered with around 2,000 crystals, throned over the dancing and dining guests. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the hotel expansion, the association Denkmalfreunde Waldlust e.V., which is responsible for maintaining and promoting the desire for forests, decided to reattach the historic gem to the ceiling. The fastening specialist fischer sponsored suitable wood construction screws for this purpose and implemented the assembly.

Before being reinstalled, the 100-year-old chandelier underwent a comprehensive restoration, in which 2,000 lead crystals were cleaned, sorted into their different sizes and threaded on with new metal pins. In order to prepare for the installation of the chandelier, the carpenter Matthias Morlock and Michael Armbruster, team leaders at fischer Elektrowerkstatt, were on site to carry out wiring work and set up a mobile scaffold tower. Then the fish application engineer Mirjan Bubser carried out the assembly.

"When attaching the chandelier, it was important to safely transfer the loads acting on the wooden ceiling through the attachment of the 20-kilogramme chandelier to the anchoring base. That wasn't a problem with our Fischer wood screws," says Mirjan Bubser. “We are delighted to have made a contribution to the successful anniversary of the desire for the forest with the attachment of the chandelier.” This is how the historic festival hall shines again in the glow of the golden 20s on the occasion of the celebrations.

Today, the former Grandhotel Waldlust still has a strong appeal to many people. Visitors explore the Lost Place on themed tours or photo tours. There are also “ghost hunters” searching for “ghost events”. Waldlust has already been the location of various film and television productions, from cinema films to reportages and crime, and is now a popular event location.
