A radiant face for a new church

fischer FZP II cyclone plate anchors secure God’s house in Taipei, Taiwan

A radiant face for a new church
In Taiwan, a wide variety of cultures and religions come together, such as Daoism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Jewishness – often even within a family. The free exercise of faith is enshrined in the Constitution. A new house of worship and congress centre is being built in Da Zhi, in the Zhongshan district of Taipei, covering an area of more than 20,000 sqm (215,500 sf) for the minority of Christians among Taiwanese residents, as well as all local residents and tourists. The substantial completion of the project is well advanced and is expected to be completed in 2021. The building already impresses today with its modern architecture designed by HCW Architects & Associates in Taipei.

Around 42,000 Fischer FZP II cyclone plate anchors in the 11 x 12 M6/18 carbon version ensure the secure anchoring of the curtained back-ventilated facade (VHF), which is clad with white Dekton tiles from the Spanish manufacturer Cosentino. The construction of the modern building envelope was completed successfully from 2018 to 2020. “Our fastening solution impressed customers in particular with its high load-bearing capacity, long-lasting safety and great user-friendliness,” emphasises Ralf Weber, Market Manager for Facade Systems at the fischer Group. “However, the professional advice and support provided to customers by our Taiwanese importer Fuhau Engineering Corporation Ltd was also decisive for us being able to participate in the project.”
The fastening specialist has been working closely with its partner in Taiwan since 2001. Fuhau Engineering Corporation Ltd. offers products and services specifically for high-quality facade and interior fittings as well as other architecture topics. “Together with the fischer group of companies, we have already successfully completed numerous construction projects in Taiwan,” says Andrew Chiang, Managing Director of Fuhau Engineering Corporation Ltd. "The brand stands for quality and reliability, which makes it easier for me to acquire projects on site. I also appreciate the company’s international orientation and technical support in the partnership."
In the case of the curtained back-ventilated facade (VHF) of the new church in Taipei, fisher FZP II anchors attach Dekton panels measuring 900 x 1550 x 20 mm together with the locally manufactured facade substructure to the structure. This garment material from the Spanish manufacturer Cosentino is made using a high-tech process of glass, ceramic and quartz and is highly resistant to UV rays, heat, frost, stains, scratches and other weathering and wear. “Dekton can be installed with minimal joints,” says Ralf Weber.
“Together with the invisible, rear-side fastening with our undercut anchors, a uniform, harmonious building view is created – a clear advantage over edge fastenings.” The fischer FZP II anchors form-fit and completely without expansion pressure in the conically undercut drill hole. This technology allows planners and facade builders to make better use of the respective technical material properties. This results in lower plate bending moments and higher load capacities. “In projects worldwide, the optimised static system and the higher breakout forces compared to edge fastenings enable the use of large-format panels with the same thickness,” explains Ralf Weber. "With the same formats, thinner and lighter plates can also be used as an alternative. This can be achieved with little assembly effort, which shortens construction time and reduces project costs."

As a result, the energy-efficient facade of the new church in Taipei combines contemporary thermal insulation, climate control and a healthy indoor climate with a homogeneous, graceful building view, to which the fastening by means of undercut technology makes an important contribution. Professional anchoring enables long-term safety and durability, reduces maintenance costs and thus increases sustainability.
