The total area of Europaallee is approximately 78,000 m². The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) are building around 400 new apartments as owners and developers on the site. With Zurich’s central train station within walking distance and the facilities for working, shopping and eating in the immediate vicinity, the district describes the new food point for many people.
The so-called “field F” covers a total of around 39,000 m². According to the planning of the Zurich office Boltshauser Architekten, a building for 168 rental apartments (16,300 m² living space) will be built on 28,000 m² of this space. In addition, there is space for offices (7,500 m²), shops and services (800 m²), restaurants (500 m²) and much more. Construction started in 2016 and is scheduled to be completed in 2019. The new facade made of glass and natural stone is of great importance here. The combination of modern transparency and high-quality Sellenberg shell lime and red Mains sandstone gives the building – and thus the entire residential area – a friendly face and a representative look. Beyond aesthetics, the reliability of the building envelope plays the most important role. Because if facades fail, they endanger public safety and life. Therefore, the correct selection and use of the anchors is very important.
The company Zeidler & Wimmel from Kirchheim, Lower Franconia, therefore worked closely with the ACT facade specialists of the fischer group of companies to anchor the natural stone elements. The result is that around 55,000 FZP undercut anchors are used. This facade fastener offers higher holding forces and is suitable for lower panel bending moments than conventional systems and is installed invisibly from the outside, form-fitted and completely without expansion pressure in the undercut borehole of natural stone.
